At Real Programming 4 Kids, we’re thrilled to announce the launch some new courses designed by highly qualified and experienced teachers to elevate your skills and knowledge:
For over 24 years, Real Programming 4 Kids (RP4K) has been at the forefront of teaching coding to children through engaging video game applications. With a rich history that includes introducing AI concepts in programming classes as early as the 1990s, RP4K is now seizing the opportunity to delve deeper into the exciting world of AI.
The rise in popularity surrounding AI has inspired RP4K to develop online courses specifically designed to demystify complex topics such as Machine Learning and Neural Networks. These courses aim to empower young learners to unlock the digital secrets of the universe.
Eduardo, who has been with RP4K since 2019, is the mastermind behind the Artificial Intelligence courses. With a background in Software Engineering (Game Design) from McMaster University and a Master's degree in Information Technology Digital Media from Carleton University, Eduardo brings a wealth of knowledge and experience. He has taught various programming languages, including Python, Java, and C#, and has experience teaching Applied Math for Coders.
RP4K offers weekly 18-week AI courses on weeknights or Saturdays. Additionally, the Intermediate and Advanced AI courses are available as 10-day summer camps during July and August. Students must have completed at least one Intermediate Level RP4K course to qualify for the AI courses, ensuring a solid foundation before diving into more advanced topics.
Exciting times lie ahead in the world of AI, and RP4K is ready to guide students through this transformative learning experience. With hands-on projects, expert instruction, and a supportive community, students will be well-equipped to embark on their AI journey and discover the limitless possibilities that await.
Many students grasp mathematical concepts more effectively when they understand their real-world applications. We can enhance appreciation and comprehension by demonstrating how math is utilized in exciting ways.
One of the most engaging methods to teach Applied Math is through coding projects and games, allowing young learners to see the relevance of mathematics firsthand.
RP4K has deep roots in mathematics education. In the 1990s, co-founder Elliott Bay operated a math tutoring and enrichment program in Winnipeg, emphasizing that learning is more enjoyable when it’s fun.
RP4K offers three online Applied Math courses designed specifically for young coders, alongside one elite Pure Math course that focuses on theoretical concepts.
Target Age: 9 to 11 years
Prerequisites: At least a B in their school math class
In this introductory course, students explore essential topics like addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, negative numbers, probability, and geometric transformations. Each topic is applied to a fun coding project, fostering a hands-on understanding of the material.
Course Creator:
Tiger Wu - A seasoned instructor at RP4K since 2018, Tiger holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, complemented by a robust foundation in mathematics, including calculus and statistics.
Target Age: 12 to 14 years
Prerequisites: Completion of at least one Beginner Level RP4K course with a B or better in school math
This course delves deeper into topics such as algebra, coordinate geometry, inequalities, and prime numbers, along with exciting applications like image encryption and quantum physics. Students will engage in multiple coding projects that apply these concepts, such as programming a particle gun using the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle.
Course Creator:
Quinlan - An educator who studied Mathematics at the University of Waterloo, Quinlan has been teaching RP4K's theoretical Math & Physics for Video Game Programmers since 2022. He also created and taught our Advanced Applied Math for Coders course.
Target Age: 14 to 18 years
Prerequisites: Completion of at least one Intermediate Level RP4K course with a B or better in school math
In this advanced course, students tackle topics including Pythagoras, Trigonometry, and Vectors, applying these concepts to coding projects that reinforce their significance, like coding a Chaos game with Fractals.
Course Creator:
Quinlan
Target Age: 15 to 18 years
Prerequisites: Completion of at least one Advanced Level RP4K course with a B or better in school math
Unlike the other courses, this high-level offering focuses on math and physics without coding projects, preparing students for advanced studies. It covers advanced topics like special relativity and graph theory, essential for understanding the underlying principles of game programming.
Course Creator:
Elliott Bay - The co-founder and president of RP4K, Elliott holds an Honours Math degree and a Master’s from the University of Manitoba. With extensive experience in tutoring and teaching, he is passionate about making math accessible and engaging.
Both courses are now available to students in the USA and Canada. American students can take advantage of the favourable exchange rate when enrolling, making these high-quality courses an even more accessible investment in the future.
We believe in fostering an interactive learning environment. With a low student-to-teacher ratio, every learner receives the personalized attention they deserve.
Our courses are taught by seasoned professionals who bring real-world experience to the (virtual) classroom. You'll learn the theory and how it’s applied in today’s industries.
Whether you're in the U.S., Canada, or beyond, our courses are accessible from anywhere. Study from the comfort of your home while still benefiting from structured lessons and expert guidance.
Artificial intelligence is transforming the gaming industry by enabling more realistic character behaviours, adaptive gameplay, and personalized player experiences. AI also has growing applications in the health, marketing, finance, and automotive sectors. Likewise, applied mathematics leads to improved problem-solving abilities essential in tech fields like gaming, engineering, physics, and more.
